Topic: Being Pre-active: Situational Awareness and Threat Assessment
The purpose of this presentation is to provide nurse leaders with information and tools to use for their staff to identify potentially threatening situations before they escalate.
1. Provide an overview of current trends in the prevention of healthcare workplace violence
2. Identify cues that alert the nurse before a potential situation escalates.
3. Utilize tools and practices that will defuse a potentially threatening situation and protect others
4. Discuss the role of the nurse leader and nurse with regard to pre-empting and handling potential threatening situations
