What do you do in your role as Clinical Informatics Specialist?

I oversee change management for Inpatient and Emergency Department Order Sets in the Electronic Medical Record System across four hospitals.

You participated in the very first class of the IONL/IHAC nursing leadership fellowship. What was that like?

As a member of the first class of the IONL/IHAC nursing leadership fellowship, I had an opportunity to further develop leadership skills in a unique and supportive environment. The fellowship used a variety of methods which involved seminar instruction, role playing, group reflection and real world project implementation. Our team members were able to better identify strategies for use in conflict resolution and negotiation because of this program. Through roleplaying with our peers we received immediate feedback and coaching that allowed us to excel in our organizations. The unique blend of industry and academic faculty shared insights that inspired us to seek more from ourselves to drive change in the profession and healthcare more broadly.

How has your participation in the fellowship program impacted your work since?

I've had a chance to use several of the competencies from the fellowship as my role evolves at my organization. The year-long fellowship allowed us to build connections that will endure throughout our professional careers.

Are you involved in other industry activities?

I also serve as Treasurer of American Nurses Association Illinois, and as an adjunct Clinical Instructor at Loyola University Chicago and on the leadership workgroup of the Illinois Healthcare Action Coalition.
