Dr. Therese Fitzpatrick
Assistant Clinical Professor
University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Nursing

Dr. Fitzpatrick is recognized as an expert in nursing human capital optimization; specifically the analysis of nursing workload and the development of evidence based staffing standards, policies, and models that support excellence. Her current work is focused on the use of mathematical optimization and economic modeling on the prediction of demand for nurses, development of staffing strategies, and the effective deployment of staff. In this session Dr. Fitzpatrick will highlight areas from her recent article published in the Journal of Nursing Administration in February 2010 about the role of the nurse leaders in using alternative approaches to deploying human capital.

2. Describe mathematical optimization modeling and its use in workforce planning and deployment.
