Title: Nursing Surveillance: Aiken's Research Indicates Nurses Provide Surveillance, But What Exactly Is Surveillance?
Description: This webinar will focus on the concept of surveillance and watching over by registered nurses as it is performed with patients in the hospital setting. The history of the concept of surveillance, along with the results of two research studies will be presented. In the first study, a theory of the watching over process was generated through qualitative research and in the second study the theory was tested using quantitative methods.
Objectives: - Trace the history of the concepts of surveillance and watching over - Explain the watching over process as it is performed by registered nurses during the workshift - Compare the watching over process across medical-surgical and critical-care assignment patterns - Relate the watching over process to patient safety and quality - Discuss the findings of two studies of the surveillance process
