Patient acuity, the measurement of the level of intensity of nursing care required by a patient, is an important component of nurse staffing plans.  Acuity-based staffing approaches have been shown to improve patient outcomes and enhance nurse satisfaction. Passed in 2007, Illinois’ Nurse Staffing by Patient Acuity Act was a groundbreaking law.  The law addressed the workforce concerns of direct care staff nurses and hospitals in order to best serve and deliver safe, quality care to patients.

This presentation will discuss the primary components of that law. The Town Hall features a panel discussion by nurse leaders presenting best practices to overcome barriers and implement this important law in Illinois hospitals.

The Town Hall is free for IONL members, and $25 for non-members. CE credit may be awarded.
