Presenter: Janet Nau Franck, MBA, RN, CIC Consultant / Infection Preventionist Trinity Medical Center
Title: The Red Box: An Innovative Duct Tape Strategy: Improving Isolation Precaution Compliance and Reducing Costs
Description: As the number of patients in Isolation Precautions increase, so do the pressures to control costs and improve compliance. This presentation will highlight how Trinity Health System saved up to $110,000 and over 2700 hours a year by creating a "Red Box" of duct tape to facilitate safe communication with patients on Contact Precautions. Using this strategy provided reduced costs while increasing interaction and time savings for both patients and staff. Learners will be provided with an action plan to launch this innovative strategy.
Objectives:
- Describe a recent study that improved compliance, reduced costs and increased healthcare personnel (HCP) satisfaction when interacting with patients on Contact Precautions.
- Outline an action plan to launch this innovative strategy within your facility.
- Explain how to measure the success of your savings and staff satisfaction.
