Communicating for Success in Difficult Situations
Why don’t people speak up? Because it is difficult confronting people! People’s lack of ability, belief that it is "not their job”, and low confidence that it will do any good are the three primary obstacles to direct communication. Other obstacles include time and fear of retaliation. Research demonstrates that there are 5-15% of healthcare workers who do step up to these difficult conversations. These workers report observing better patient outcomes, are more satisfied with their workplace, have increased productivity, and intend to stay in their unit and hospital. Attend this webinar to learn these valuable skills!
Objectives: 1. Identify the importance of effective communication in health care 2. Describe differences among various communication styles 3. Demonstrate effective assertive communication techniques. 4. Identify effective ways to respond to verbal attacks.
